(MENAFN - Arab News) A five-day cleaning and hygiene awareness campaign, "The National Cleaning Project" organized and promoted by the Technical and Vocational Training Council (TVTC) of Makkah with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Jeddah Municipality and the Saudi Society for the Environment, came to a close.
The goal of the campaign was to spread the knowledge of cleanliness and good hygiene by cleaning the parks and streets as part of citizens' national duty to protect the environment.
Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al-Zahrani, director of TVTC for Makkah, thanked all the participants and supporters of the campaign and said they will continue to promote the campaigns goals into the future.
"It was an effort to spread awareness about hygienic behavior through collective action, which has a positive impact in the long run. It was an initiative of the public and the private sector to raise the profile of environmental protection and how the individual can have an influence," said Dr. Al-Zahrani.
More than 150 scouts and experts in the field of painting and maintenance participated in the campaign to clean the parks and streets, to paint the footpaths, to repair damaged public utilities and to spread public awareness of environmental issues.
Eng. Waleed Felemban the leader of the scouts program, said the importance of this awareness campaign was to target values of national unity, responsibility, and positive initiative.
Felemban also pointed out that the project has achieved several objectives of spreading awareness of personal hygiene and diet, the community role in maintaining the environment and development as their national duty.
