UAE, Austria to boost ties


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) UAE Foreign Trade Minister Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi received Dr Michael Spindelegger, Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, and his accompanying delegation, where both sides discussed strengthening cooperation and economic and commercial relations between the UAE and Austria. "Today, we see relations between the UAE and Austria strengthen and prosper, giving us, as officials from our two countries, a renewed incentive to expand the horizons of our economic partnership and increase joint investments that benefit the citizens of our countries," she told the guests. Shaikha Lubna also discussed investment cooperation and available investment opportunities for Austrian companies, calling on these to increase their presence and investments in the UAE in order to also be able to promote their products in neighbouring countries in Asia and Africa and benefit from the investment facilitations and strengths the UAE enjoys. She also commended the important role played by Austrian companies in the development of the UAE economy and called for intensifying cooperation in tourism exchange between the two countries, pointing out to the important role the air transport sector is playing in strengthening trade exchange between the two nations. She also briefed the delegation on the UAE economy's most significant recent developments, including the country's adoption of an economic diversification strategy and its ability to enter new and promising sectors. The meeting also discussed the importance of carrying all of the proposals that have been made to increase bilateral trade between the two countries to the joint committee meeting that is scheduled to convene at a later time this year. For his part, Dr Spindelegger expressed his country's keenness on strengthening its economic and investment relations with the UAE and commended the growth that has been achieved in these relations over the past few decades. He added that it was important to exchange expertise and strengthen joint investments in the renewable energy sector and expressed his country's recognition and appreciation of the UAE's leading role both regionally and globally in that strategic sector. The meeting was attended by Juma Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Trade Affairs; Rashid Al Tunaji, director of the Government Communications Department; and Aisha Al Qubaisy, Director of the International Organisations Department.
