Japan's Economy Shrinks for 3rd Straight Period


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Japan's economy shrank over the October-December period for the third straight quarter amid weak global demand. The Cabinet Office said on Thursday that Gross Domestic Product in the latest period fell 0.1% in real terms from the previous quarter. The decline translates into an annualized 0.4% fall. The rate of decline, however, was smaller than in the previous quarter, when it marked minus 3.8% in annualized figure, according to Japan's (NHK World) website. By category, exports suffered a major decline of 3.7% amid the overseas economic slump. Corporate capital investment was down 2.6%. Another positive was overall GDP for 2012. It rose 1.9% from the previous year, marking the first increase in 2 years.
