(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) A team of Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) officials has seized 1,897 packs of expired drugs and insecticides from a pharmacy's storehouse in Muttrah.
In another raid following complaint by a customer, 689 multipacks of macaroni - most of them past their expiry dates and being sold at discounted rates - were seized from a shop in Dhahirah governorate, a press release said.
For the Muttrah seizure, the PACP team collaborated with inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for a joint inspection after the ministry received information that the pharmacy was selling expired drugs. Legal action has been initiated in the case.
Meanwhile, in the Dhahirah case, the company supplying promotional macaroni packs has been booked for cheating and misguiding consumers for monetary gains.
The firm was offering a multipack of five at a discounted rate. While the first and last packs had valid expiry dates, contents of the three packs in the centre were found to have expired in 2011.
They had been packed in such a way that only a close look could detect the dates. Moreover, the outer carton mentioned a 2013 expiry date.
