(MENAFN) South Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy stated that in January, the country's auto exports grew by 17.1 percent, reaching 288,344 units, reported Xinhua News.

The ministry attributed the rise, the first in 8 months, to more working days from the Lunar New Year holiday.

The value of the country's car exports jumped by 24.3 percent in the month on annual basis, to USD4.27 billion.

Meanwhile, local sales dived by 20.2 percent from December, as temporary tax reductions for car purchases ended in December 2012.

Furthermore, sales of cars manufactured by local manufacturers declined 23 percent, however, sales of imported cars climbed 30.8 percent to 12,345 units.

It is worth noting that in January, auto output grew by 23.3 percent from a year earlier to 410,602 units.
