Morocco, France to set up USD541m wind farm

(MENAFN) France's GDF Suez announced that it will join hands with Morocco's Nareva Holding to establish and operate Africa's largest wind farm in the North African country, reported Xinhua News. GDF said that the USD540.99 million project, which will be located in the Tarfaya desert area of southern Morocco, is scheduled to start operations by year-end. The two companies inked a 20-year deal, under which the Tarfaya wind farm will be sold to the government of Morocco. The project will have an output capacity of 300 megawatts, which comprises 2-fifths of the Kingdom's total wind energy. It is worth noting that by the end of the current decade, Morocco plans to generate 2,000 megawatts of wind energy to reduce its reliance on fuel and energy purchases.
