(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) A workshop on combating money laundering and terror financing began on Saturday at the Prosecution Departments Building at Airport Heights Area.
The workshop is being organised by the Public Prosecution and will continue till Monday under the auspices of Sayyid Marwan bin Turki bin Mahmoud al Said, director general of economic affairs at the Secretariat General of the Higher Council for Planning and chairman of the Technical Committee to Combat Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing.
As many as 13 staff members from Public Prosecutions across the sultanate are participating in the workshop. Sayyid Marwan said in a statement that the workshop is part of the plan of action between the Public Prosecution departments and the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering, which seeks to raise staff efficiency.
He said the workshop is being held in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). IMF experts are participating in the workshop and there is a proposal to hold the workshop annually.
Shadi Khoury, adviser at the Legal Affairs Department of IMF, said meeting these challenges successfully requires effective procedures and regulations that are futuristic.
