Toyota Aqua tops Japan''s car sales for four months

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Toyota Motor Corp.'s Aqua hybrid topped Japan's new car sales ranking in January, extending its winning streak to four months, data released by an industry body showed Wednesday. Sales of the Aqua jumped 66.6 percent year-on-year to 22,466 units, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association. Honda Motor Co.'s N Box minicar came second with 20,552 units, followed by Toyota's Prius hybrid with 17,733 units. Six of the top 10 models were minicars with engines no larger than 660 cc, reflecting interest among consumers in its fuel efficiency and affordable price. Japan's new passenger car sales fell 13.6 percent in January, as the expiry of government subsidy program for the purchase of fuel-efficient cars in September sapped consumer demand.
