UAE delegation meets Polish Prime Minister, discusses economic ties


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, held a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk after arriving in Warsaw on February 6, 2013, for the first Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the UAE and Poland. The meetings coincided with the launch of Emirates Airline's direct flight between Dubai and Polish capital Warsaw. The meeting was also attended by H. H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline '&' Group; Asem Mirza Al Rahma, Ambassador of the UAE to Poland; Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Shehhi, Undersecretary, UAE Ministry of Economy, and other dignitaries. Sheikh Ahmed conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to the Polish Prime Minister, wishing him good health and happiness. In turn, Tusk also asked Sheikh Ahmed to convey his good wishes to Sheikh Mohammed and the UAE. Expressing appreciation over the development of UAE-Poland relations, Sheikh Ahmed pointed out that Warsaw was the first new destination for Emirates in 2013 and its 129th route. Al Mansoori discussed with the Polish Prime Minister ways of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the area of economic cooperation and creation of investment opportunities. He said the UAE-Poland bilateral trade reached $400 million in 2011 and is expected to be $500 million in 2012. "The first Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the UAE and Poland is a major milestone in the relationship between our countries. The UAE and Poland share common economic goals, particularly in our commitment to support and strengthen the private sector as an engine of growth. We look forward to utilising this opportunity to enhance the potential for improved business ties in areas of mutual interest," said Al Mansoori. During the meeting, the Polish Prime Minister lauded the strong partnership and the growing relationship between the UAE and Poland, and expressed appreciation at the official launch of the first Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries. Commending Emirates Airline on the launch of direct flight between Dubai and Warsaw, Tusk said, "The direct air connectivity between the UAE and Poland will help bring our peoples closer and invigorate business and investment activities in our countries. The UAE is a role model with its focus on economic development and sustained peace and harmony. Poland is happy to join hands with the UAE in fast-tracking growth programmes." The 1st Meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation is being held on February 6 and 7 which will see the signing of the Protocol as well as the signing of a MoU between the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) and the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority (ESCA). During the visit, lasting until February 8, Al Mansoori will attend the bilateral meeting of Economy Ministers of Poland and the UAE. The UAE delegation will also take part in a Poland-UAE Business Forum and a meeting with the Poland's regional and the city authorities. The UAE is ranked the first major trade partner of Poland in the Middle East in terms of total trade turnover rate, and the two countries are already cooperating in a number of areas such as industry, investments, innovations, trade exchange, petro-chemicals, small and medium enterprises, and financing of economic projects.
