(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Oman captain and goalkeeper Ali al Habsi believes that the 2015 Asian Cup Group A qualifier against Syria on Wednesday will be a fresh start for the national team. The match kicks off at 5.15pm at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
Speaking to Muscat Daily on Monday after joining his teammates for a camp under French coach Paul Le Guen, Habsi said, ''The Gulf Cup disappointment is history now (Oman failed to win a single match and crashed out in the group stage). The Syria match is a fresh start for us. It is a new competition and a fresh challenge. The Asian Cup qualifiers are not easy.''
The Red Warriors last qualified for the Asian Cup in 2007 but missed a berth in Qatar 2011.
''Syria will be a tough opponent but we are starting our campaign at home and it is an advantage. I am confident of a good start,'' said Habsi, who did not feature in the Gulf Cup after his club, Wigan, refused to release him.
Besides Oman and Syria, the other two teams in the group are Jordan and Singapore.<
