(MENAFN) Etihad Airways reported a 200 percent increase in profits in 2012, on higher passenger traffic, Arabian Business reported.

The Abu Dhabi flag carrier said it made USD42 million net profit last year compared to 2011.

Etihad also reported a 17 percent increase in revenue to USD4.8 billion last year, on the back of a 23 percent growth in passenger traffic to 10.3 million.

During 2012, the carrier pushed ahead with organic expansion through codeshares and stakes buyouts in other airlines like airberlin and Virgin Australia.

Etihad said equity and codeshare partners added 1.2 million passengers to the airline's network during the 12-month period.

The airline also reported a 19 percent increase in cargo tonnage during 2012.
