(MENAFN - Arab News) Jeddah's Traffic Department is coordinating with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to ease traffic jams resulting from the implementation of Haramain Rail Project.
The project passes through some parts of Jeddah districts, Maj. Gen. Hasan bin Mohammed Al-Qahtani said.
Al-Qahtani told Arab News the Traffic Department set up a detour between the University Bridge and the Crown Prince Bridge from south to north, which is now set for the rail project, in a bid to ease traffic congestion in the area, he said.
He added that a bridge is already there to provide more flexibility and smoothness to traffic flow in the area. The detour has four tracks and all safety and traffic signs in addition to the presence of traffic patrols for the organization of traffic movement in the said area.
He reaffirmed that the Traffic Department was involved in all projects implemented in Jeddah Province.
In regards to the old airport area where the Haramain Rail Project is planned to pass, Al-Qahtani said they received no guidance from the Ministry of Transport and Communications on the subject. However, any traffic action related to this, whether closure of the area, erection of a detour or change of traffic direction, will be coordinated with the ministry, he pointed out.
