(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Al Hayat Association, in partnership with McDonald's Oman, will hold Walk-4-Life Walkathon' at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Monday.
The walkathon will be organised under the patronage of H E Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed bin Said al Mardhouf al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs, and will be supported by the National Committee for Drugs and Psychotropic Affairs and the Ministry of Social Development. The event aims to raise awareness on drug related issues and help victims of drug abuse.
Ibtesam al Busaidi, vice chairperson of Al Hayat Association, said, ''The walkathon targets every person who is suffering from drug addiction, recovering addicts and those who have lost their loved ones to drug addiction. We request and encourage everyone to join hands with us to make this campaign a success.
''The association's aim is to help create a more compassionate society willing to work together to preserve and improve human life. By raising awareness on drug menace, we help our youth beat drug addiction, live a better life and become a productive part of our society. We do this event for the youth as they are the future of Oman.''
Dr Amira bint Mohsin al Raidaan, chairperson, Al Hayat Association, said, ''We feel the association's achievement has mainly been gaining people's trust. It is very hard to win trust of the individuals you treat. People acknowledge us for our work but nevertheless we need more support from various organisations and individuals who would like to join us for the cause.''
Alwi Husein al Hamid, marketing manager, McDonald's, said, ''We are extremely honoured to be associated with Al Hayat and would request people to join us to promote this good cause.'' The walkathon will begin at 4.30pm but free registration for participants and distribution of T-shirts will begin at 3.30pm.
Stalls will provide information on illegal drugs besides offering games and face painting for children. The event will also feature a Zumba performa
