(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Health (MoH) has asked staff to come up with ideas and projects that can boost its services across the country and also improve staff performance. H E Dr Darwish bin Saif al Moharbi, the Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs in MoH, said that the idea behind the initiative is to improve financial and administrative processes and encourage staff to perform better.
''The objective of the project is to develop human resources, sharpen their skills and encourage them to contribute to development of the administrative system in terms of planning, organisation and leadership.''
Earlier last year, H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al Saeedi, the Minister of Health, had said that it was time to reward employees for good performance to improve services across the public sector.
''We don't have a system of rewarding employees at any level. Those who perform well are receiving the same salaries as those who don't. Periodic raises are the same for performers and non-performers,'' he had said while speaking at the Governmental Performance Development Seminar organised by the Ministry of Civil Service last year.
According to H E Dr Moharbi, the aim of the initiative is to also encourage teamwork at workplaces. ''For an individual to grow, a suitable and encouraging environment, administrative atmosphere and supportive administrative tools should be available.''
Asked if the project would be considered an alternative or integral to the incentive system, H E Dr Moharbi said, ''Motivation and initiatives go hand in hand in workplaces to improve performance and unleash one's potential. The initiative does not stop with the completion of normal task but it continues as there is always a search for new tools and methods to improve performance
