(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Reflecting the growing level of support across the country for the UAE's bid to host the 2020 World Expo, Dubai Economic Council (DEC) has announced its support as an official partner of the bid campaign. The DEC will seek to raise awareness of and generate support for the country's Expo bid through a range of upcoming events and outreach initiatives, along with actively participating in an ongoing series of briefing sessions for internal and external stakeholders.

Reflecting the growing level of support across the country for the UAE's bid to host the 2020 World Expo, Dubai Economic Council (DEC) has announced its support as an official partner of the bid campaign. The DEC will seek to raise awareness of and generate support for the country's Expo bid through a range of upcoming events and outreach initiatives, along with actively participating in an ongoing series of briefing sessions for internal and external stakeholders.

Commenting on this announcement, Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State and Managing Director of the UAE Higher Committee for Hosting the 2020 World Expo in Dubai said: "We are very pleased that leading companies and government organisations across the UAE have joined this important national campaign, underlining the country's commitment to the Expo bid. Active support from both the public and the private sector is key to ensuring the UAE remains in a strong position to be selected as host of this extraordinary global event, which will provide lasting benefits for generations to come." Under the theme Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, if the UAE's bid is successful to host the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, it will provide a platform for the global community to establish and strengthen partnerships that are vital for long-term, sustainable growth. This vision is in line with DEC's mandate to foster productive business environments, attract investments and enhance further Dubai's global competitiveness.

Following the announcement of DEC being named an official partner of the UAE's Expo bid, Hani Al Hamli, DEC's Secretary General, said: "Strategic partnerships between the public and private sector are vital to the success of the UAE's Expo bid. As a channel between these sectors, DEC is in a key position to reach out to a diverse range of stakeholders. We are very pleased to take part in this important campaign and we encourage other organisations across Dubai and the UAE to do the same." World Expos - one of the oldest and largest international events - take place every five years and last for six months. Since 1851, World Expos have provided unique opportunities for people from across the globe to come together and celebrate the world's cultural diversity and marvel at its technological innovations.

Dubai, UAE, is competing against four other candidate cities bidding to host the 2020 World Expo. The winner will be announced in November 2013 following a vote by the 161 member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions, the intergovernmental organisation in charge of overseeing the calendar, bidding, selection and organisation of World Expos.
