S Korea's Dec mining, manufacturing output up 1%


(MENAFN) Statistics Korea stated that the country's mining and manufacturing production went up 1 percent last month from November, reported Xinhua News. The agency said that the average operational capacity rose by 0.9 percentage point to 78.4 percent in the month. The service industry's output expanded for two consecutive months, however, retail sales dipped 1.1 percent due to cold weather and frequent snowfall that lowered outside activities. The country's leading index of economic indicators edged up 0.4 point from November to 99.9, while the coincident index rose 0.1 point to 98.4. Meanwhile, facility investment grew 9.9 percent from the previous month, as a result of the increase in the investment of machinery and transport equipment. It is worth noting that even though South Korea's exports dropped in December because of fewer working days, however, the daily average exports grew to USD2.09 billion from USD1.99 billion in November.
