(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al nahyan attended this evening a ceremony held to distribute Al Burda Awards in celebration of the anniversary of birthday of Prophet Moahmmed (PBUH).
Present were Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Director General of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs '&' Endowment (GAIAE) Dr Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, senior officials and a number of ambassadors.
Al Owais said the ministry had always sought to promote Al Burda Award both locally and internationally to enrich the cultural scene in the UAE and Islamic countries and to honour the memory of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
During the ceremony, a number of poems on the anniversary were read, including a poem entitled 'The Prophet of Peace', written by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Sheikh Abdullah honoured winners of Al Burda Award in its three categories; poetry, Arabic calligraphy and Islamic illumination.
