(MENAFN - Arab Times) Indications are rife that lawmakers plan to submit queries to the Minister of Defence Sheikh Ahmad Al-Khaled concerning the recent sudden decision to discharge military officers from the GCC countries from active service, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
According to reliable sources, the development is likely to fuel sectarian fire, particularly since the decision was sudden.
Sources said many lawmakers are furious at the decision saying the affected officers still have many years ahead of them to reach the age of retirement. He stated there were no records of violations upon which the ministry may have based its decision to terminate them from their jobs.
The sources noted if the officers are in service it will give boost to the security and stability of the country and affirm the unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries that is naturally strategic to Kuwait.
Sources indicated the lawmakers feel some external forces may have instigated the minister to take the wrong decision against the officers and their families.
Sources added, "This action translates into blocking the sources of income for many families, but the door is still open for the minister to rescind the decision while insisting it will lead to questioning from the Parliament."
Meanwhile, MP Sa'ad Al-Bous has submitted a parliamentary query to the State Minister for Cabinet and Municipality Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah on the issue of spoiled foodstuffs confiscated over the past few years, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The lawmaker wants the minister to give him numbers and names of companies from which spoiled foodstuffs were confiscated and citations issued starting from January 2010 until now.
He also wants to know the number of companies that were referred to the Public Prosecution for committing the violations supported by evidence.
He also wants to know the number of companies that were not referred to Prosecution and reasons for delay.
He also asked if any court verdicts were issued against companies or they were acquitted supported by copies of the verdicts.
