(MENAFN) Kuwait Airways' chairman, Sami al-Nasef, stated that over the coming 2 years, the airline would acquire up to 21 new planes, reported Khaleej Times.
Al-Nasef said that the decision comes after the parliament endorsed a bill to convert the national carrier into a commercial firm.
The chairman added that the firm will substitute the 17 planes it owns, through buying between 20-12 new planes gradually over the scheduled period.
He noted that half of the new planes will be small, while the rest will be half large.
The airline 's fleet comprises 15 Airbus and 2 Boeing planes, purchased nearly 20 years ago, however, over the last two years, some of these aircraft have had technical issues.
It is worth noting that just 10-12 airplanes of the fleet are operational and the rest under extended maintenance.
