Spain's Dec jobless rate hits 26.02%


(MENAFN) Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) stated that the country's jobless rate in the last month of 2012 hit 26.02 percent, reaching 5.9 million unemployed people, reported Xinhua News. The agency said that during the year's final quarter, the number of jobless people grew by 187,000, as many momentary summer contracts in the holiday and tourism sector ended. In the whole year, 691,800 people became jobless, raising the unemployment level from 22.85 percent at the beginning of the year. Jobs in the public sector were cut by 6.98 percent in 2012, while they were slashed by 4.3 percent in the private sector. Moreover, jobless rate among youth reached 55.13 percent, with 930,200 without work. It is worth noting that in the year, the number of families with all their members out of job grew by 258,700 from 2011, hitting a record high of 1,833,700.
