(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammad Al-Sada said Monday his country was seeking to double its production from the Bulhanin offshore oilfield from 45,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 90,000 bpd.
"The project is now in the stage of engineering and designs," Al-Sada, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum, said in a keynote speech at the Exhibition and Conference of Middle East Offshore Companies 2013.
The project is part of initiatives currently taken by Qatar to develop its offshore fields, he said.
Al-Sada said in the future Qatar will increase its production of oil extracted from offshore fields by improving processes and adopting the appropriate technology that can provide efficiency and safety and preserve the environment.
Addressing the three-day conference, the Qatari minister said that as to the development of offshore gas fields Barzan project was currently being developed to produce about 1.4 billion cubic feet per day for domestic consumption.
Three large platforms will be built in the North Field, he said, expecting the project to be completed by 2014.
Qatar is one of the largest producers of oil and gas form offshore and seeks to continue to improve production operations from the existing fields, he pointed out.
