Kuwait- Drug control sleuths seize 7,560 bottles of foreign liquor

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Drug Control General Department (DCGD) has confiscated 7,560 bottles of liquor smuggled into the country through Shuwaikh Port. In a press statement Saturday, the department revealed the smuggled bottles of liquor were kept in 630 cartons and the shipment came from a GCC country. It has been reported the documents of the cargo truck carrying the items were falsified to facilitate the procedures for the entry of the contraband to Kuwait. Preliminary investigations revealed the main suspect in the smuggling operation is a Kuwaiti who is said to have left the country. Investigations are ongoing to hold the culprit responsible. In another version of the story, customs men at Shuwaikh Port in cooperation with the Drug Control General Department foiled an attempt by a Kuwaiti man to smuggle 7,560 bottles of whisky into the country, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The citizen tried to smuggle the shipment on forged documents that stated the merchandize belonged to the US military in Kuwait. Following information the Drug Control Department received about a shipment in a 40-footer container carrying whisky from an unspecified Gulf country, the customs at Shuwaikh Port was notified and the items intercepted. In the meantime, an Arab man (driver) and two Asian men have been detained in connection with the case, while security operatives are still looking for the Kuwaiti who is currently at large.
