(MENAFN - Arab News) The director on duty at the South Terminal at Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport Saud Al-Buqami assured international flights heading for America and Europe were not affected by the snowfall and winter weather that is affecting European airports.
He told Arab News yesterday that all scheduled flights took off without a single cancelation or delay, and the last one of which was flight number 115 heading for Heathrow Airport in London on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. This was also confirmed by spokesman for the General Authority of Civil Aviation Khaled Al-Khaibari, who said the GACA is monitoring the situation and coordinating with local airports.
London's Heathrow Airport canceled a fifth of flights yesterday and airlines scrapped 40 percent of flights to Paris's main airports as snow continued to blanket parts of Europe, with more forecast.
London's smaller Stansted and Gatwick airports said they were operating as normal yesterday morning but that delays and some flight cancellations were likely.
