(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Gulf Eco 2013 exhibition was inaugurated on Sunday by H E Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed bin Said al Mardhouf al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs.Held under the theme 'Clean Energy for Oman', Gulf Eco 2013 will advocate green practices and sustainable living. A two-day Gulf Eco Conference 2013 that begins on Monday alongside the exhibition, will focus on the potential of the sultanate's renewable energy, waste management, recycling and climate change.The three-day exhibition is being organised by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) to mark Oman Environment Day, observed on January 8 every year.Companies such as Global Engineering Services (GES) and NGOs such as Clean Up Oman (CUO) and the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) are among the exhibitors. GES has been recognised as an environment solutions provider and has experience in two major domains - water and environment, and sustainable development.CUO is a voluntary environmental group in Oman, enlisting participation of over 30,000 volunteers in 2012 alone. It holds awareness programmes, exhibitions and clean-up campaigns against reckless dumping of litter.ESO is dedicated to conserving the environment and ensuring that Oman's natural heritage remains intact for future generations. Addressing mediapersons after touring the exhibition, H E Mohammed bin Salim bin Said al Toobi, the Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, said, ''The ministry is making progress with its awareness programme started in 2011. Awareness isincreasing every year, thanks to the efforts of directorates ofenvironment in different governorates. A team for finding initiatives and solutions has been set up in the ministry, which is coordinating initiatives by various organisations aimed at preserving the environment.''''This exhibition is part of the Omani Environment Day celebrations. The products displayed by participating companies will help provide solutions for conserving environmental resources in the sultanate,'' he added.H E Saadi said, ''The exhibition features the latest techniques and information available for saving the environment.''MECA is carrying out the task of spreading awareness about the environment in society and the role that needs to be played by different individuals.''The exhibition will be open from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 7pm until Tuesday.
