(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Residents of Ghadafan village in the wilayat of Liwa, which will be affected by the Ministry of Housing's relocation project, have welcomed the move and have called for expediting it. They said that the plans of the project looked promising and that the demands of many in the villages and towns close to Sohar Industrial Port were now turning into reality. The village of Ghadafan is only 375m away from the port. Abdulkhaliq al Mamari, a lawyer and Ghadafan resident who was involved in raising the villagers' demands to be relocated and in pursuing the matter with authorities, said, ''We had a look at the plans published in the media on Sunday. What people had been demanding for 12 years will finally be fulfilled. The plan has received positive feedback from the people. The methodology adopted on compensation and relocation has been fair, looking at the long time, the people have suffered.''Calling the project the vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Mamari said he hoped that it is executed soon.Under the plan, each relocated family will get a two-storeyed house and every married person in that family will be given a separate villa. The residential complex will be like an integrated township with all amenities.Residents said authorities are yet to give a date by which the project will be complete. ''We must be patient as such projects need a lot of groundwork and study to determine the number of people who will be relocated and how many would prefer compensation over houses in the complex,'' Mamari said.''The people of the village are thrilled with the news confirming the relocation. They had given up hope,'' said Adil Said Rashid al Mamari, another Ghadafan resident.
