(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Directorate of Marine Affairs in the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) will sign a number of memorandums of understanding (MoU), with its counterparts across the world for reciprocal recognition of certificates issued for navigators and workers on board vessels.The signing of agreements will be carried out in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), in addition to the Navigation in Omani Territorial Waters Organisation Law issued by Royal Decree 81/98, which regularises the issuance and suspension of certificates.The first MoU will be signed with Jordan by the end of January while the second will be signed with UAE.The ministry will also sign agreements with Kuwait, Marshall Islands, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, UK, the Netherlands, Iran, India, Australia, Ukraine, the Philippines, Panama, Malta, Liberia, Bahamas and Cyprus.The agreements will yield many benefits as they will help Omani sailors working on board foreign vessels and ensure their capability to adhere to safety standards keeping the lives, property and marine environment in mind.The MoUs will also ensure that graduates with marine efficiency certificates can work on board vessels owned by Omani shipping companies.
