(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The company that employed a Sudanese worker who fell to his death from a 10-storey high scaffolding had violated safety regulations and hired workers illegally.
And a local doctor said these types of accidents are on the rise due to poor safety standards.
The worker, who died on the spot due to severe brain and skull injuries, had been working on the construction of a building in Al Nuaimia area.
A top official at the Ajman Civil Defence said the police had launched an investigation into the accident to determine whether the company was guilty or not. The police have transferred the body to a forensic laboratory for further investigation.
The deceased had been working for the company as a scaffolding technician. The platform he was on collapsed while he was trying to unhook the scaffolding from the 10th floor.
Khalifa Hospital operation room director Abdull Kareim Helmi said such construction accidents had recently increased, with a large number of workers brought to the hospital either dead or with severe injuries after falling from high levels because of poor safety measures.
Dr Helmi urged authorities to ensure construction companies were following safety procedures and regulations to prevent work-related accidents that were leading to the loss of lives.
