'Naming women to Saudi SC favors Kuwaiti counterparts' 

(MENAFN - Arab Times) Several political personalities in Kuwait are saying the admission of women into Saudi Shura Council favors Kuwaiti women, considering the cordial relationships citizens enjoy with the leadership of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In this context, the Chairperson of Women Cultural and Social Society Sheikha Al-Nisf said the entry of women to Saudi Shura Council is a pleasant surprise and delightful information for GCC women in general and Saudi women in particular, stressing women in Saudi Arabia deserve the status since their level of civilization, academic accomplishment and self-confidence.

According to professor of political science at the Kuwait University Dr Ayed Al-Muna'e, Saudi women deserve the new status as members of the Shura Council, assuring they will be active in decision-making. He urged the women to play their role effectively in terms of monitoring and legislation, and hopes that Saudi women will one day assume ministerial posts in the Gulf nation.

In his comment, former housing affairs minister Yahya Al-Sumait praised the decision to appoint women into the Saudi Shura Council. He noted the world is dynamic and it is difficult to keep a half of the society at bay. He appreciated the decision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud to instate reform in all aspects. "This is a fair treatment by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques since Islamic Sharia is not against the participation of women in political activities," the university teacher reiterated.
