(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) As part of a programme to beautify the governorate of Muscat, Muscat Municipality is constructing walkways with modern amenities in several areas''We have already started the construction of walkways in various places in Muscat. Some will be decorated with lights, while others will be beautified with plants or will have facilities for exercising. The municipality has already finished work on the ones in Muttrah, Al Khuwayr, Azaiba and Mabela. Work in other places is in progress,'' a senior Muscat Municipality official said.''While constructing the walkways, we take into account aesthetic aspects and the area's tourism potential. Along with several developmental projects, Muscat Municipality is also giving impetus to citizen-friendly projects and construction of walkways is one of them,'' the official said.The walkway in Muttrah is 3.5km long and 3m wide. It starts from Muttrah and ends at the Gate of Muscat. ''It was planned in such a way that people are able to enjoy the beauty of the mountains and the sea at the same time,'' the official said.The walkway in Al Khuwayr starts from Wadi al Khuwayr and stretches up to the beach. It is 220m long and 3m wide. The walkway is Azaiba is about 1.5km long and 2m wide, while the one in Mabela, starting from Al Tamir Street, is 2.5km long and 2m wide. Another walkway in Mabela, starting at Al Izdihar street, is 600m long and 2.5m wide.
