(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Stemming from its commitment to the United Arab Emirates, and its active role in the local economy, DP World, UAE Region, actively participates in the Absher initiative to enhance the participation of Emirati citizens' involvement in the local labour market. The initiative was launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and followed up by HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

DP World, UAE Region, the leading regional marine terminal operator, in October 2012, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs. This agreement outlines DP World's commitment to employ 345 Emirati men and women from the Absher job seeker list in five years.

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, said: "DP World is active in the Absher initiative, which enhances our role as a UAE company to support our country and the community. We salute the great efforts of Sheikh Mansour and the team of Absher to ensuring this initiative is a great success and achieves its goal, which is not just ensuring jobs for UAE nationals but, as importantly, involving Emiratis in building the nation. This initiative represents a significant step in the process of building our country and strengthening our position among leading nations.

"DP World is currently expanding the capacity of its flagship Jebel Ali Port, which includes the third brand new container terminal which will provide when opened in 2014 hundreds of new jobs for Emirati men and women." Masoud Al Noori, Director of Human Resources Department, DP World, UAE Region, said: "DP World offers the Emirati men and women involved in the initiative the opportunity to work for a top company with global reach, together with excellent professional benefits that include recognition schemes and advanced training in numerous fields. So far, 27 Emiratis registered with the Absher initiative have joined DP World, taking up positions in various jobs, including at Jebel Ali Port." The Absher initiative is based on four strategic pillars designed to engage UAE nationals in the labour market: job opportunities for citizens, vocational guidance, training and development, and encouragement for citizens to seek employment in the private sector.
