MP urges govt to help 1,500 'homeless' Kuwaiti families

(MENAFN- Arab Times) MP Askar Al-Enezi urged the government on Saturday to help lift the burden off 1500 Kuwaiti families who were harmed by residential care laws and are currently without homes. Al-Enezi said that the families had taken out loans from the Savings and Credit Bank to buy houses, preferring not to wait for government-assigned housing. However, for different reasons, they were forced to sell their purchased houses for new ones and could not do so due to inflated costs of real estate, he added. Al-Enezi explained that the families returned the loans to the bank and referred to the Public Authority for Housing Care so that they can be re-included in the housing waiting list. However, the authority rejected their request claiming they've enjoyed housing care by receiving loans from the Savings and Credit Bank. On another note, Head of the Human Rights and Bedoun Affairs MP Khaled Al-Adwa said that his committee will be meeting with the Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah this week to discuss human right and Bedoun issues. He added the committee will also be meeting with human rights organizations to discuss those matters and will visit the state's central prison. Al-Adwa said the committee has received numerous complaints from citizens on abuses against prisoners perpetrated by prison guards. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Women and Family Affairs Committee, MP Masouma Al-Mubarak said on Saturday that one of the priorities in this legislative round is to amend articles on the housing loan right for women in the Housing Law. In other news, opposition activists are planning another demonstration on Sunday Jan 13 in objection to the one-vote electoral system and the arrest of protestors. On Twitter, 'The Nation's Dignity' March organizers had announced the plan to hold a sixth march in the area of Sabah Al-Nasser. In a related development, the Constitutional Court is scheduled to begin looking into cases against the one vote decree beginning Jan 13.
