(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Sohar University and the International Association for Public Transport (UITP) will jointly organise the 2nd UITP Y4PT Youth Event to promote public transport awareness in the sultanate.The event will be organised on February 5 and 6 in the university campus. A delegation of UITP officials for the MENA region recently visited Sohar University to finalise arrangements. The event is expected to attract prominent figures in the area of transportation from Oman and the Middle East.On February 4, 2011, Sohar University and UITP organised the 1st Youth for Public Transport (Y4PT) event, which was triggered by a research grant to Sohar University in the area of public transportation from The Research Council.''Sohar University became the first academic member of UITP from Oman, and its association has increased in the form of research collaborations and participation in the UITP-led Center for Transport Excellence (CTE) in Dubai,'' said Abdulla Nasser, head of UITP - MENA region.Dr Abdulaziz al Ohlay, Saudi Arabia's deputy minister for transport and UITP MENA chairman, Jassim al Sulaiti, chairman and managing director, Mowasalat, Qatar, Khalid Hashim, executive director, land department, DOT, Abu Dhabi, and Mohammad Obaid al Mulla, member of RTA board of directors, Dubai along with several heads of transport operators and companies from MENA will form part of the UITP Delegation.Dr Abood al Sawafi, vice chancellor of Sohar University, said, ''We are committed to being an internationally recognised inclusive university of excellence through its teaching, research and engagement, and is therefore proud to be involved with UITP in hosting this event.'' The youth event will be conducted under the guidance of Alessandra Gorini, founder and head of Y4PT.
