ABB wins contract for Saudi water desalination plant

(MENAFN) Swiss power group ABB has secured a contract from Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Saudi Arabia's government agency responsible for desalinating sea water, for a desalination project, Arabian Business reported. The contract includes designing and delivering 420 kilovolt (kV) high voltage gas insulated switchgear (GIS) for a new desalination facility in the Gulf Kingdom. The company will also provide support for the grid integration of a new 2.5 gigawatts (GW) power generation plant being developed by SWCC. The desalination plant, slated for completion in June 2014, is located in Yanbu Industrial City, a major port on the Red Sea in the Al Madinah province. The plant will have a capacity to produce 550,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day.
