UAE- Online lover robs woman

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 31-year-old GCC citizen who threatened a Ukrainian woman and stole her money and cell phone after dating her online and meeting at a hotel for drinks, has been accused by the Dubai Public Prosecution of theft by force. The case dates back to June last year. The victim got to know the defendant three days before the incident took place, online. She told the court that they had made an appointment to meet each other at a hotel's night club. The defendant arrived at the fixed time, went to her room, and identified him since she did not know his name. She asked him to wait for her while she went to the bathroom, for minutes, to get dressed. She came out from the toilet and was surprised when he raised the volume of the TV, took a glass, broke it on the edge of the table, and pointed the sharp edge at her face. He threatened to kill her if she did not hand over all the money she had. He then held her hand and moved to her bedroom, where he ordered her to open the locker. When she refused, he hit her with a wine bottle. She tried to run away, but he chased her and pulled her by her hair. She again ran to the bathroom, but slipped and fell on the wet floor. She however, managed to run out of the room and sought the help of security guards. She however later discovered that her iPhone and wallet containing Dh6,000 were missing. The police were called and later the suspect was arrested. On interrogation he confessed to have sold the iPhone and alleged that the woman was the one who had assaulted him with the bottle of wine. Since the suspect did not appear in the courtroom, though he was summoned, the bench of court
adjourned the hearing for January 17.
