IMF Reiterates Commitment To Supporting Egypt


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reiterated Tuesday its commitment to supporting Egypt in face of increasing economic challenges. Director of the IMF s Middle East and Central Asia Department Masood Ahmed said today that talks, which took place on Monday, with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy, Prime Minister Hesham Qandil and other officials were fruitful. Ahmed said that Egyptian officials expressed their commitment to implementing a homegrown macroeconomic program that enjoys broad support and addresses Egypt's economic challenges. Ahmed added that the Egyptian authorities revealed that they were still keen on the IMF's financial support. He said in a statement that an IMF technical team would visit Egypt in the next few weeks to resume talks over the IMF s financial support to Egypt. Egyptian authorities are currently in talks with the IMF over a potential $4.8 billion loan deal.
