Taiwan President Seeks Greater Economic Role


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Taiwan President Ma Ying - jeou has expressed the island's hope to regain its economic activity in order to be able to play a bigger role in the Asian economy. The Taiwanese leader's remarks came during an economic forum held in the capital, Taipei, in which he stated that Taiwan will regain its growth by improving economic environment, strengthening basic advantages and promoting regional cooperation. Despite expectations that Taiwan's economy will improve this year, it is too early to be optimistic as the International Monetary Fund has forecasted GDP global growth to be an estimated 3.6 per cent. In addition, many international companies have changed their strategy by retrieving main products to the countries. However, he said, these challenges cannot change the role of Asia as a global economic engine, adding that Taiwan should play in which a more positive key role.
