AngloGold Ashanti CEO Cutifani to head AngloAmerican

(MENAFN- AFP) Anglo American on Tuesday announced that AngloGold Ashanti chief executive Mark Cutifani will take up the reins at the global mining giant in April.

"Anglo American plc ("Anglo American") announces the appointment of Mark Cutifani as chief executive, with effect from 3 April 2013," the firm said in a statement.

Anglo American announced in October that chief Cynthia Carroll was stepping down.

Chairman Sir John Parker said Cutifani was an experienced and highly respected leader in the industry.

"He is a seasoned miner, with broad experience of mining operations and projects across a wide range of commodities and geographies, including South Africa and the Americas," he said.

Cutifani will stay on as CEO of the South African gold miner until end March, AngloGold Ashanti said.
