(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) introduced an Arabic domain on Sunday and accredited three companies as domain registrars for the English country code top-level domain (ccTLD) of Oman (.om) and the Arabic domain. The three firms are Nawras, Omantel and Gulf Cybertech E-Solutions, an IT and domain solutions provider. The domain registrars will be in charge of registering domains by intermediating between TRA, which is responsible for ensuring legal compliance with the accreditation and registration policies of domains, and those who want to register their domains.''The Arabic domain has been introduced as a step towards Arabisation of domain names to facilitate search options and net browsing for Arabic speakers,'' Hilal al Siyabi, media and consumer affairs manager at TRA, said at a press conference on Monday. The authority will also launch an awareness campaign on the Arabic domain under the theme My address is Oman'.Explaining the steps for registering domains, Siyabi said, ''The domain name has to be chosen first, following which its availability has to be checked on the registration website (www.registry.om) or through the three accredited registrars. The final step involves registration of the domain.''''An Arabic domain is being introduced for the first time in the sultanate while the domain .om has been in use for quite some time. Registration with the .om domain enables registrants to have a unique identity as .com is quite common,'' Siyabi said.
