Iran developing software to restrain social networking sites

(MENAFN) Iran's police chief, Gen. Esmail Ahmadi Moghadam, announced that the government is building a new software to restrain social networking sites, reported AP. Moghadam said that the new software will protect Iranians against malicious content online while permitting users to enjoy the benefits of the internet. In 2012, the Islamic Republic founded a government agency to supervise internet usage in the country. At the current time, Iranians have access to most of the internet, including Facebook and Twitter, even though authorities obstruct some sites associated with the opposition, in addition to sites that promote dissent or are morally corrupt.
