Kuwait- Rising number of crimes tied to lack of adequate security

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The recent crimes at various locations across the country, particularly in notable shopping malls â€" most recently where a Lebanese doctor Jaber Samir Yousef was stabbed to death â€" are signs of social and security dangers perverting the country, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting some Kuwaiti citizens. Some citizens believe such disasters indicate the collapse of social values and morality, a few blame the lack of adequate security in public places while some link it to the fervor of the youth. However, they unanimously agreed that the outcome is the same irrespective of the causes. A citizen Abu Abdul-Mohsen expressed his frustration over the pathetic situation of Kuwait by saying, "Humanity in human beings no longer exists and people are acting as though they live in a jungle. Even animals of the jungle are not as bad as most human beings. What has happened to our country where people commit murder in public places in broad daylight?" Meanwhile, a citizen Rasha Al-Tamimi said the problem is due to inadequate security in the shopping malls and other public places. She stressed the lack of security operatives at various locations inside the major shopping malls floors except at the entries and exits, indicating that most of the security guards are inexperienced to the extent that they cannot even defend themselves. Furthermore, a citizen simply known as Meshal furiously asked, "What security? Where were they when all these incidents occurred?" He said such incidents have been occurring for several years, but people are only concerned about the current brutal murders. He revealed that people have cried out for help several times in commercial complexes, car garages and roads in vain. He lamented, "There are several cases of harassments, rapes and murders in police stations and hospitals open for a long time without any serious actions taken for reduction". In addition, a citizen Lina Al-Doumani stressed she was shocked by the spate of murder cases and other forms of violence in the society. She posited that the media has always been publishing news about crimes against individuals, especially children, adding that 80 percent of news in the audiovisual and printing media are about murder, rape and kidnap cases. She suggested, "We must do something about curtailing the rate of violence. We can start by discouraging violent movies and wrestling with murder, massacre and kidnap scenes, which influence the youths".
