Turkish Energy Minister to Visit Algeria

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz will embark tomorrow on a two-day visit to Algeria. According to a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Turkish minister will hold talks during the visit with his Algerian counterpart Youcef Yousfi as well as with a number of senior officials on the promotion of cooperation between the two countries. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced during his visit to Algeria last November that the agreement on the export of Algerian gas to Turkey will be revised and expanded from 2014 onwards. The 20-year agreement was signed in 1988 and entered into force in 1994. Davutoglu said Turkey's gas needs doubled in recent years as a result of economic growth and increasing demand for gas which is expected to bring a four-fold increase over the next decade. The expansion of bilateral cooperation will double the volume of trade between the two countries to USD10 billion in the near future compared to USD 4 billion at present.
