(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Temperatures dropped drastically across Oman following heavy showers on Thursday, leading to cold weather conditions.Muscat recorded its lowest temperature this year with a minimum of 16Celsius on Saturday, according to officials at the Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation (DGMAN).The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at -2.8C in Jebel Shams, Dakhliyah governorate, on Saturday morning.''So far, the coldest day in Muscat was Saturday, with the city recording a minimum of 16C. The temperature is expected to drop further in the coming days. The cold spell throughout Oman is expected to remain for the next three days at least,'' said Hamid al Brashdi, head of the meteorology department at DGMAN. He added that the temperature in Jebel Shams will remain below 0C for the next few days, while chilly winds will continue to sweep many parts of the country.Along the Sea of Oman coast, weather conditions would vary from cloudy to clear skies and moderate to rough sea conditions may prevail. ''However, in other parts of the sultanate, clear skies along with good visibility will prevail,'' said Brashdi.At the highest point of Jebel Shams, which is around 3,000m above sea level, the temperature remained sub zero, while in the foothills it was around 5C.Saiq, a town in Dakhliyah governorate, recorded a maximum temperature of 15C and a minimum of 6C on Saturday.
