(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) John Garret, the General Manager and Chief Group Compliance Officer of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), was named the Compliance Officer of the Year 2012 at the ACC Achievements Awards.

"This accolade confirms NBAD's commitment to strong and strict compliance and our belief that robust compliance makes us a stronger financial institution," said Michael Tomalin, the Group Chief Executive of NBAD. "John Garrett has been a resilient steward of NBAD's compliance strategy and we congratulate him on being named the Compliance Officer of the Year." This latest award follows the accolades that Mr. Garrett and his team won last year.

The NBAD Compliance Division won three awards at last year's GCC Regulators' Summit. It named Mr. Garrett the Most Recognised International Compliance Officer of the Year. It also named Columcille O'Donnell, the Head of Group Compliance at NBAD, the Compliance Officer of the Year; and recognised the NBAD Academy for Effective Implementation of Compliance Training.

"I am thankful to the organisers of ACC Achievements Award and for the opportunity I have been given to work for a Bank that treats implementing national and international compliance regulations and standards with the utmost importance," John Garret said. "Robust and effective compliance is a core value at NBAD, because it allows us to build trust with all our customers, shareholders, and stakeholders and makes us a stronger and more sustainable bank." Garrett continued: "Compliance depends on the expertise, experience and conscientious work of staff across the Bank. This is why NBAD continues to invest significantly in training at all levels across the Bank. It is a focus of NBAD's strategy to train and develop UAE nationals into future leaders."
