Bolivia's 2012 agricultural production jumps 22%


(MENAFN) The Bolivian Institute of Foreign Trade (IBCE) announced that during the current year, the country's agricultural output jumped by 22 percent from a year ago, reported Xinhua News. The IBCE said that the total area of land cultivated during the summer season was higher by 18 percent from last year's figure. It added that output of sugarcane exceeded 6.4 million tons, ranking the top of list of Bolivia's produce, followed by soy, corn, rice, sorghum, sesame, cotton seeds, and cotton fiber. On the other hand, winter season agricultural output, which started in recent weeks and ends in 2013, is expected to produce 1.7 million tons of crops. According to the country's Deputy Minister of Rural and Agriculture Development, Victor Hugo Vasquez, Bolivia is expected to achieve food self-sufficiency in 10 years.
