Peugeot denies merger plans with Opel

(MENAFN) PSA Peugeot Citroen has denied plans to unify with General Motors' (GM) Opel division as part of their alliance, Reuters reported, citing Autogazette. The magazine quoted Olivier Dardart, head of Peugeot's German operations as saying "This has never been an issue during the discussions". He added "the point (of the alliance) is not to reduce personnel." Recently, the two automakers shelved plans for a joint mid-size car program, though signed agreements on three other vehicle projects and engine cooperation. The planned alliance, which was unveiled in February this year, raised investor doubts as the French automaker's finances worsen, prompting thousands of domestic job cuts under close supervision by Socialist President Francois Hollande's government.
