(MENAFN - Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has activated a new main 132/11 kV Substation with a capacity of 150 Megavolt Amperes (MVA) at the horse racecourse in Jebel Ali at a cost of AED 95 million, and has extended underground its existing network of 132 kV cables at cost of AED 11 million.

DEWA is focused on implementing its developmental projects to further enhance and upgrade the capacity of its infrastructure, to manage growing demand for services and to meet its goal of optimising its services to strengthen efficiency and reliability. As part of its ongoing work, DEWA has expanded its high voltage 132 kV transmission network to meet growing demand for electricity for various requirements.

"In accordance with its vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, DEWA is contributing effectively to the economic and social development of Dubai and promoting the Emirate as a global hub for trade, finance and tourism by providing electricity and water services at the highest levels of availability, efficiency and reliability. DEWA is committed to improving the efficiency of its networks and executing new vital projects to enhance its infrastructure," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD '&' CEO of DEWA.

"At a cost up to AED 106 million, the project aims to enhance the capacity of DEWA's grids of power transmission to the horse racecourse in Jebel Ali. DEWA has extended underground cables with capacity of 132 kV at a length of 400 metre to be connected with the main 132/11 kV transformation substation in The Greens area and the main 400/132 kV transformation substation in Al Barsha area. This will optimize its efficiency and reliability and ensure uninterrupted and stable power supply to all segments of consumers at all times," added Al Tayer.

"These substations apply and use the most state-of-the-art digital technologies of transformation substations, contributing to promoting their efficiency and reliability. These relentless efforts will serve Dubai's ambitious urban and economic growth plans. Currently, we have 22 substations with a capacity of 132 KV under construction. Furthermore, the existing substations in the grid are being developed by raising the transformer capacity and introducing the latest approved world technologies," concluded Al Tayer.
