(MENAFN - Arab News) After successfully separating the two Saudi conjoined twins Abdullah and Salman in King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, minister of health and head of the conjoined-twins' surgery team, announced that he intends to mentor more Saudi surgeons to perform this type of operation.

Al-Rabeeah said that the participation of medical students in such rare operations is a crucial step toward the preparation of a new generation of qualified surgeons specialized in this field.

He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted by the Vice Chancellors of King Saud University for Health Sciences and Al Qasim University, in providing their medical students with the opportunity to participate in such operations.

Al-Rabeeah said the success of the operation is a milestone for the entire Kingdom and was the fruit of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman's great support and encouragement.
"This is the 31st successful operation, which was undertaken in 8 hours 30 minutes, in King Abdul Aziz Medical City " National Guard. The first operation was in 1990."

He also expressed his gratitude for the parents and the leadership's trust in the medical team, which fueled their motivation and drove them to achieve greater successes.

Meanwhile, the minister urged employees working in the internal auditing departments throughout the Kingdom to adhere to the highest levels of professionalism, transparency and fairness in order to uplift the auditing profession.

"Auditors should aim to concentrate their attention and care toward servicing the ministries' beneficiaries. The second phase of the auditing work involves shifting away from stiff bureaucratic controls, toward developing systems and policies that facilitate the accomplishment of tasks with utmost professionalism," said Al-Rabeeah.

Al-Rabeeah spoke after meeting with the directors of the internal audit departments in the various health directorates to convey the ministry's support for their hard work and accomplishments.

He explained that the benchmark for the success of any internal department is the minimum level of complaints and observations made by the citizens and watchdog institutions.
