Dubai's DDF records USD21m anniversary sales


(MENAFN) Dubai Duty Free (DDF) reported record USD21 million revenue from sales in its 29th anniversary day, Arabian Business reported. Colm McLoughlin, executive vice chairman of Dubai Duty Free said: "We are very happy to have achieved USD21 million in a 24-hour period". "We began introducing a discount offer across a wide range of merchandise on our 20th Anniversary in 2003 and it has become a popular day with travelers." he added. The record sales were driven primarily by perfumes, with sales reaching USD5.6 million for over 58,000 bottles, followed by watches and clocks with sales of USD4.9 million. Cosmetics came in at third place with sales of USD1.9 million, the retailer said in a statement. DDF also said that it has recruited over 1,000 employees as it prepares for the opening of Concourse A in January, and will end the year with around 5,200 employees in total. The company said in November it is targeting double digit sales growth for the year, after sales hit USD1.29 billion in the year to October.
