Draghi says ECB to continue to fight inflation: report

(MENAFN- AFP) European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi pledged the ECB would continue to fight inflation in the eurozone, according to a newspaper interview to be published Sunday.

In a preview of the banker's conversation with Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Draghi said, "We have ensured price stability and continue to do so".

"People understand that we're tied to price stability," he continued, adding that over the last two months German criticism over his monetary policy has faded.

The ECB projected earlier this month that area-wide inflation will average 1.6 percent in 2013, compared to 2.5 percent this year.

The ECB's overriding priority is to keep eurozone inflation at close to but just below 2.0 percent on a 12-month basis.
