Kuwait- Court acquits citizen of drugs, firearm possession


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Criminal Court acquitted a citizen of having in his possession narcotic substances and a firearm. According to the case file, police officers on patrol in Ahmadi governorate came across a vehicle parked at a dirty yard with two people inside it, and they observed the two people were not in normal condition. The suspects were then transferred to the concerned authorities and results of their urine sample confirmed they took narcotic substances. The prosecuting officer also found an unlicensed gun with the suspect, and he confessed possessing a weapon but denied using drugs. Meanwhile, the Criminal Court acquitted a citizen of possessing intoxicants for consumption purpose and driving under influence of narcotic substances, and ordered a second suspect to be treated at a rehabilitation center for a minimum of six months and maximum of two years, and confiscation of illicit items in their possession. The prosecution officer, alongside his colleague, was on a routine patrol in Hawalli area when they sighted the defendants inside a car which was moving in an erratic manner, so they ordered the motorist to stop. The officers realized the suspects were under influence of drugs and went ahead to conduct a search on them during which varieties of illicit drugs, including heroin and morphine, were found inside nylon bags. Later, the Public Prosecution discovered the first suspect is an ex-convict who spent five years in jail with hard labor for a similar offense.
